George McIvor, Chairman of The Master Chefs of Great Britain and Founder of The Full Range, has launched an annual school soup challenge involving the children at Ardvreck School in Crieff.

The brief was to make a healthy and nutritious soup for a relative as well as providing the reason why their soup would be good for their chosen relative. Out of all the recipes received, three finalists were chosen who then had to make their soup in front of the school whilst judges George McIvor and Warren Brown MCGB, Executive Chef at Crieff Hydro, watched on. The winner of the competition was Ewan Forbes Leith with his Carrot ginger and lime soup, Runners up Flo Arbuthnot and Jules Molyneaux

George McIvor commented, “Soup is an often forgotten nutritious and cheap way of providing a healthy meal. You do not need a lot of ingredients, it helps you eat more vegetables and is packed with nutrients as they don’t get boiled away! A hearty bowl of soup will fill you up and warm you up on a cold winter’s evening. Encouraging children to cook and think about the food they are eating is essential to moving towards the government’s targets on childhood obesity.”
